This is the by far most climatedestroying way to create energy of them all. Nothing junks climate harder than this if you actually do the math. But media praises it, as doinmg some research or questioning isn't fancy anymore for a journalist, especially on renewables. Energy doesn't come from nothing. Every Wh this thing creates must be provided by the person walking over it plus the losses for efficiency. And for every Wh delivered by the person, he has to eat 4Wh more food, as the human body is brutally inefficient at 26% mechanical efficiency. I doubt pavegen has more then 50% efficienty, so I would expect the human to eat 8Wh of food for every Wh pavegen deliveres. Food is the energy source with th by far most brutal CO2 emissions per kWh, the CO2 emittet for each kWh of pavegen energy is far, far, far more than even the worst fossile fuel popwer plant with lignite at 1100gr CO2/kWh. Food has to be seeded, watered or fed, kept free of organism that want to kill it, harvested, processed, cooled, stored, coocked at massive energy needs that do not add to the energy content, then cooled again and 25% of that is thrown away, as food's storade duration is abysmal. The very best food CO2 wise is rice, at about 2200gr CO2/kWh, double of lignite. If you eat beef to regaain the energy lost for pavegen, that's more like 20000gr of CO2/kWh. Lignite is burned at about 50% efficiency, and the heat created by that efficiency can be used for district heating, so it's not even wasted. Compare that to pavegens 2300gr CO2/kWh input and 12,5% efficiency converting that to electricity, pavegen is the by far most climatekilling way of generating electricity by a magnitude. Isn't it INSANE, how guessed climate friendlyness is wrong on so may feelgood-renewable projects and basically you end up at the extreme opposit of what your emotions told you it would be if you do the math? Pavegen now exists more than 10 years, they have a lot of years worth of prototype data. Up to now, you will find not a single number on how much it actually puts out and what 1kWh genberated costs from energy that you stole from the person walking over it for free. BTW. Food is also by far the worst on cost per kWh. While wind is 4 cents/kWh, 1kWh in BicMacs is actually 8,50€. As only 12,5% of that BicMac energy is turned into electricity, 1kWh of pavegen energy actually costs the MCDonalds customer walking over it 68€! Thank god Pavegen steals that energy and they only have to pay for their installation, not for the food they waste on the people walking over it eating bill.
